Take Action

Be part of the growing movement to walk with refugees, people seeking asylum and migrants in vulnerable situations.

Partners

Beyond parishes and schools (featured below), many partners share our passion of walking with the forcibly displaced and help us to fulfil the JRS mission to accompany, serve and advocate to promote the dignified living of people seeking asylum, refugees and migrants in vulnerable situations.

A range of people, partners and networks reside both inside and outside faith-based communities. We would love to partner with you.

Parishes

Parishes work with JRS Australia in the following ways:

  • Raising awareness in their congregations via hosting events and other actions.
  • Providing material support for people seeking asylum, refugees, and migrants in vulnerable situations that are served by JRS Australia in Sydney.
  • Advocating for policies of welcome and protection.

Schools

A variety of JRS Australia programs are available to school students. We help schools host events and programs that raise awareness about the injustices facing refugees and people seeking asylum. Additionally, schools can provide material support to the forcibly displaced people that are served by our Sydney community spaces. JRS Australia’s programs/events in schools include:

  • ‘Refugee Voices’: a speaking program run in partnership with Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) where lived experience leaders share their stories of forced displacement in order to raise awareness in schools.’
  • ‘Community Conversations’ (formerly ‘Table Talks’): an interactive story-sharing program where refugees and people seeking asylum share their stories with students. Small groups of students then discuss the story and the solidarity actions they can take. Special thanks to Sydney Alliance for co-facilitating Community Conversations with JRS Australia. Please note, that Community Conversations are also available to parishes and other groups.
  • ‘The JRS Ambassador Award’ is currently offered in Jesuit schools.
